w/U-20 MNT Forward Preston Zimmerman

Starting in late March, Center Circle e-magazine will transform from the once-a-month newsletter on ussoccer.com, becoming an interactive page that will be updated on a regular basis with new features on all the U.S. National Teams. All your favorite CC sections will still be available, such as Armchair Midfielder, In 3s and You Don’t Know Jack (Marshall) trivia, mixed in with more podcast interviews, new video segments, a chance for you to rant opinions and ask questions, and much, much more.

Our little Center Circle baby is all grown up. Come check it out.

While a number of his Under-17 teammates were hearing their names called in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft or moving into their college dorm room, Preston Zimmerman was finalizing his contract with Hamburg in the German Bundesliga. The self-admitting pasty-white forward had drawn interest from the overseas club with an impressive performance during the 2005 FIFA Under-17 World Championship where he notched a goal and an assist. Four months later, he moved to the German port city to kick off his professional soccer career. We caught up with him just a short while after he’d settled in.

In part one of ussoccer.com’s exclusive podcast with Zimmerman, he talks about how he came to his decision to sign with Hamburg, how he’s getting along with fellow American and former Under-20 Benny Feilhaber and gives us an estimate on when he thinks he might break his nose for the fifth time.

In part two of ussoccer.com’s exclusive interview with Zimmerman, he talks about his decision to go overseas instead of joining MLS or going to college, what U.S. fans can expect of Hamburg when they travel over for the World Cup and what he was missing the most during his first few weeks away from home.
