This week we've got a wide range of soccer, from women's professional league playoffs to German Cup playoffs to the star of the week - the MLS All-Star game.
TUESDAY, AUG. 1 What: German League Cup Semifinal - Werder Bremen vs. HSV Station: Gol TV When: 2:30 p.m. ET Why: Two of the top German clubs battle in this Cup semi, which will no doubt make for quite a battle. The HSV training grounds were where the U.S. Men practiced during the World Cup, and two youth national team players - Benny Feilhaber and Preston Zimmerman - are with the HSV reserves.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 2 What: German League Cup Semifinal - Bayern Munich vs. Schalke 04 Station: Gol TV When: 2:30 p.m. ET Why: You watched the first semi...so you gotta catch the second. Will be your first chance to catch the Ballack-less Bayern Munich.
FRIDAY, AUG. 4 What: W-League (USL) Semis Station: FSC When: 8 p.m. & 10:30 p.m. Why: While people are still waiting for WUSA to make its way back, you can get your fill with USL’s W-League.
SATURDAY, AUG. 5 What: Germany League Cup Final Station: Gol TV When: 12 p.m. ET Why: A Cup final at any stage is a game you don't want to miss if you have the chance. We're guessing it's Bayern vs. HSV...check to see if we're right.
What: MLS All-Star Game – MLS All-Stars vs. Chelsea Station: ESPN When: 6:30 p.m. ET Why: Unlike most All-Star games played by major U.S. sports (see NFL, NHL and NBA), this game will actually have some meaning. MLS players will be pushing for respect, while Chelsea has its “best club in the world” stature on the line.
SUNDAY, AUG. 6 What: Chivas USA vs. New England Station: FSN (Boston), MLS Direct Kick When: 7 p.m. ET Why: You wouldn’t expect to get a league game the day after the All-Star game, but you’re in luck…if you live in the Boston area, purchased MLS Direct Kick or have one of those lage satellites taking up half your yard.
What: W-League (USL) Final Station: FSC When: 8 p.m. ET Why: If you saw the semis on Friday, you have to see the final today.
What: Chivas Guadalajara (Mexico) vs. Barcelona (Spain) Station: HD Net When: 9:30 p.m. ET Why: Two of the most well known clubs go at it. As more and more Mexican players flee their homeland for Europe, it will be interesting to see just how Mexico’s biggest club compares to one of the best in the world. |
