WEDNESDAY, AUG. 9
What: Houston Dynamo vs. Los Angeles Galaxy
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 8 p.m. ET
Why: Stuck in the cellar, this is a huge game for the Galaxy as they look to kick off the second half of the season on a good note.
What: Club America (MEX) vs. Barcelona (SPA)
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 10:30 p.m. ET
Why: In Barcelona’s first match of their three-game tour against Chivas Guadalajara on Sunday (a 1-1 draw), a few players didn’t see the pitch, including Argentine prodigy Lionel Messi, Portuguese maestro Deco and both new signings from the sinking ship of Juventus, Lilian Thuram and Gianluca Zambrotta. You can expect them to play, along with Ronaldinho, in their second match.
THURSDAY, AUG. 10
What: EPL Season Preview Show
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 9 p.m. ET
Why: As the English Premier League gets set to kick-off, check out the preview show to make sure you know about all the moves made in the off-season, and find out where the analysts predict your favorite team will end up.
What: German Cup Final – Bayern Munich vs. Werder Bremen
Station: Gol TV
When: 9 p.m. ET
Why: This is a repeat from Saturday, but you might have missed it due to the MLS All-Star game. And if you want to check out the preview show instead, at least click over at the 29th minute and 66th minute marks for Bremen’s goals.
FRIDAY, AUG. 11
What: Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund
Station: Gol TV
When: 2:30 p.m. ET
Why: The German league kicks off and Bayern is missing their biggest star as Ballack jumped to Chelsea. Can Bayern keep the title or will it slip this year?
What: United States Youth Soccer Association National Championship
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 8 p.m. ET
Why: It’s not every day you get to see some of the top youth talent from the club level. See some of the USA’s rising stars.
SATURDAY, AUG 12
What: N.Y. Red Bulls vs. Barcelona (SPA)
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 7:30 p.m.
Why: Bruce Arena’s first match on the sidelines for the N.Y. Red Bulls…and they’re facing one of the best teams in the world. It will be interesting to see how Bruce gets this mediocre MLS team prepared for Ronaldinho and the rest.
What: Real Salt Lake vs. Real Madrid (SPA)
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 9:30 p.m.
Why: Real Salt Lake didn’t just steal Real Madrid’s name, but also joined in a partnership with the club. This will be the first time the two will meet and expect a jubilant crowd as they pile Rice-Eccles for a chance to see Zidane, Beckham, Ronaldo and the rest.
What: Houston Dynamo vs. FC Dallas
Station: ESPN2
When: 12 a.m. (Sunday) ET
Why: The in-state rivals are battling it out for first place and a win by Houston would put a dent in FC Dallas’ lead. If Houston can get a victory over L.A. on Wednesday, and then down FC Dallas, it would be just a point separating the two Texas clubs.
SUNDAY, AUG. 13
What: Chelsea vs. Liverpool (FA Community Shield)
Station: Fox Soccer Channel
When: 10 a.m. ET
Why: The FA Community Shield means the start of the EPL season is just around the corner. And while this is technically just an exhibition, you can expect Liverpool and Chelsea to go all out in their final warm-up match. |
