A pick of games we’re checking out this week in the world of soccer. For a full listing, go to soccertv.com.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 25 What: Inter Milan vs. Livorno Station: Gol TV When: 2:30 p.m. ET Why: Inter can take sole possession of first place with a win (if Palmero loses or ties), but Livorno is looking to continue to move up the table and would be tied with Inter with a victory.
THURSDAY, OCT. 26 What: Old Dominion vs. William & Mary Station: Fox Soccer Channel When: 8 p.m. ET Why: We’re thinking the college kids get up for these TV games as the past few shown live on Fox Soccer Channel this season have been some good match-ups. While these two teams aren’t pushing for a national championship, expect a good game.
FRIDAY, OCT. 27 What: Mainz vs. Werder Bremen Station: Gol TV When: 2:25 p.m. Why: You might not get the chance to see Conor Casey of Mainz, but you will see the best team currently in Germany in Werder Bremen.
What: Virginia vs. Wake Forest Station: Fox Soccer Channel When: 8 p.m. ET Why: Wake Forest and Virginia aren’t just two of the top teams in the ACC, but they’re both in the top five in the nation.
SATURDAY, OCT. 28 What: Liverpool vs. Aston Villa Station: Fox Soccer Channel When: 10 a.m. ET Why: Liverpool has struggled early, while Aston Villa has bloomed under Martin O’Neill. We’re expecting this one to be one of the best matches in Europe over the weekend.
What: Bolton vs. Manchester United Station: Setanta Sports USA When: 9:45 a.m. ET Why: Bolton is off to a great start and just two points behind Man U. A victory here would mean Bolton is for real.
What: AC Milan vs. Inter Milan Station: Gol TV When: 2:30 p.m. ET Why: AC Milan is trying to crawl back up after starting in the negative and while beating Inter Milan would give them just three points, it would do a ton more for their confidence to get all the way back by the end of the year.
What: New England vs. Chicago Station: Fox Soccer Channel When: 7:30 p.m. ET Why: New England needs a big win at home to overcome their loss to Chicago in their first match last week.
What: FC Dallas vs. Colorado Station: MLS Direct Kick When: 8:30 p.m. ET Why: Maybe the best of the four playoff matches last week, we’re hoping for the same thing in Dallas.
SUNDAY, OCT. 29 What: D.C. United vs. N.Y. Red Bulls Station: ESPN2 When: 6 p.m. ET Why: D.C. United has the lead, but you got to check out Arena’s last chance to pull something out of his hat to down his former club.
What: Houston Dynamo vs. Chivas USA Station: Fox Soccer Channel When: 8 p.m. ET Why: Chivas USA got the win when Guzan saved De Rosario’s late penalty kick. You know Dwayne is going to do all he can to redeem himself in the rematch. |
